What Therapy With Me Is Like

Therapy with me is relational, collaborative, and adult to adult. I am not interested in analysing you from a distance, offering quick fixes, or telling you how to live your life.

Instead, we think together.

Sessions provide a confidential space to slow down, reflect, and explore what is happening in your life. We may talk about current difficulties, important relationships, recurring patterns, emotional experiences, or significant events from both the past and present.

There is no expectation that you disclose more than feels manageable, and we work at a pace that respects your autonomy, boundaries, and readiness.

Some people arrive knowing exactly what they want to discuss. Others simply know that something no longer feels sustainable. Both are welcome.

Beginning therapy can feel unfamiliar, particularly if this is your first experience of seeking psychological support. There is no expectation that you arrive knowing exactly what to say. We begin wherever you are.

How The Therapy Works

My work is grounded in Transactional Analysis (TA), a relational psychotherapy that explores how past experiences continue to shape present ways of thinking, feeling, relating, and coping.

Rather than asking, "What's wrong with you?", therapy invites us to ask, "What happened, and how did you learn to survive it?"

Many of the ways we adapt to difficult experiences begin as creative attempts to protect ourselves. Together, we explore how these adaptations may once have been necessary and how they may now be limiting intimacy, fulfilment, or freedom in the present.

Through our work, you may:

• Understand why you respond to yourself and others in the ways that you do

• Recognise recurring patterns in relationships, work, and everyday life

• Navigate stress, anxiety, performance pressures, or significant life transitions

• Explore questions of identity, purpose, or self worth

• Loosen patterns that no longer serve you and develop new ways of relating

I often work with men who value independence and self reliance, yet find themselves constrained, disconnected, or at an impasse in some area of their lives.

Why Weekly Therapy?

I offer weekly psychotherapy because meaningful psychological change develops through consistency, relationship, and regular reflection.

Meeting weekly creates continuity and allows trust to develop over time. It helps us remain connected to the work, build momentum, and explore difficulties in sufficient depth rather than simply managing crises as they arise.

Research consistently identifies the therapeutic relationship as one of the most important factors in successful therapy. Weekly sessions provide the stability and consistency needed for that relationship to develop.

For these reasons, I offer guaranteed weekly session slots and for this reason, I do not offer ad hoc, fortnightly, or monthly appointments.

The First Session

Many people feel uncertain about therapy when they first make contact. There is no expectation that you know exactly what to say or have everything worked out before you begin.

The first session is also an opportunity for you to decide whether working together feels right. If either of us feels that another therapist or service may be better suited to your needs, we will discuss this openly.

The first session offers an opportunity for us to explore what has brought you to therapy, discuss what you hope for from the work, and consider whether we feel like a good fit for one another.

There is no expectation that you commit to ongoing therapy at this stage. The initial meeting is also an opportunity for you to decide whether working together feels right.

What Happens Next?

If you decide to get in touch, the process is straightforward.

Make Contact

You can contact me by email or through the website contact form. You do not need to know exactly what to say. A brief description of what has brought you to therapy is enough.

Initial Consultation

I aim to respond to enquiries within two working days. We will arrange an initial consultation, either online or by telephone, to explore what has brought you to therapy and what you hope for from the work.

Deciding Whether We Are A Good Fit

The initial consultation is not a commitment to ongoing therapy. It is an opportunity for both of us to consider whether working together feels right.

If we decide to proceed, we will arrange a regular weekly session time. If I believe another therapist or service may be better placed to support you, I will discuss this openly and, where appropriate, offer alternative recommendations.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to know what to say?

No. Many people arrive unsure where to begin. There is no expectation that you arrive with everything worked out. We begin wherever you are.

What if I am unsure about therapy?

Feeling uncertain, sceptical, or apprehensive about therapy is entirely normal. The initial consultation provides an opportunity to explore whether this approach feels right for you.

What if we are not a good fit?

Finding the right therapist is important. If either of us feels that another professional may be better suited to your needs, I will discuss this openly and, where possible, help you find appropriate alternatives.

Work With Me

People often come to therapy when something in life is no longer working in the way it once did. They may be feeling anxious, stressed, emotionally withdrawn, or stuck in patterns that no longer seem sustainable. Others are navigating relationship difficulties, identity shifts, burnout, injury, or significant life transitions.

Whatever brings you to therapy, the work begins with understanding your experience and making sense of what has happened in your life.

I offer individual, couples, and sports psychotherapy in Falmouth, Cornwall, and online across the UK. My work specialises in supporting men, athletes, and high performers, alongside individuals and couples navigating periods of pressure, transition, or change.

Next Steps

If this approach resonates with you, I invite you to book a 30-minute consultation. In this conversation, we’ll focus on:

  • What has brought you to therapy

  • How I may be able to support you

  • Whether we are a good fit to work together

From there, we can arrange your first session and begin a collaborative, adult-to-adult process aimed at creating clarity, resilience, and meaningful change in your life.
