Why Men Need Therapy Too:

Breaking the Silence and Reclaiming Strength

By Inner Warrior Therapy – Men’s Psychotherapy in Falmouth & Online

We live in a world where men are often taught to “man up,” keep quiet, and carry on. But beneath the surface, many men are silently struggling, with stress, anxiety, unresolved trauma, relationship issues, or simply feeling lost and disconnected.

As a psychotherapist specialising in working with men, I believe it's time we changed the conversation.

Why Men’s Mental Health Matters

Every man has a story, and often, that story includes silent battles. Research consistently shows that men are less likely to seek support for mental health challenges. Yet suicide remains one of the leading causes of death among men under 50 in the UK.

Many men I work with in Falmouth, Cornwall, as well as those I see online across the UK, carry deep emotional pain that’s been bottled up for years. Sometimes, it shows up as anger, anxiety, or burnout. Other times, it’s a quiet sense of disconnection, a feeling of not being “enough,” or the burden of trying to meet everyone’s expectations while silently falling apart inside.

Therapy offers men something they rarely find elsewhere: a space to be seen, heard, and understood, without judgement.

What is Men’s Therapy, Really?

Therapy doesn’t mean you’re weak. In fact, facing your struggles head-on is one of the strongest things you can do.

At Inner Warrior Therapy, I work with men from all walks of life: athletes, creatives, professionals, fathers, students, and those navigating big life changes or emotional lows. Some are dealing with past trauma. Others are facing burnout or relationship breakdowns. Many are simply searching for a deeper sense of meaning.

As a Transactional Analysis psychotherapist, my work is grounded in understanding how past experiences shape the way we show up in the present. We explore the patterns you’ve developed to survive, and work together to build new, more fulfilling ways of being.

This isn’t about fixing you. It’s about helping you become who you truly want to be.

The Inner Warrior Approach: Rooted in Strength, Guided by Empathy

My approach is collaborative, compassionate, and rooted in authenticity. As someone who comes from a rugby background, I understand the pressure to appear strong and “have it all together.” I also know what it’s like when life throws you a curveball.

When a career-ending injury changed the course of my life, it led me down the path of psychotherapy. Seeking support myself was the beginning of my own transformation, and I now dedicate my life to helping other men rewrite their stories too.

Whether we work face-to-face in Falmouth or online, the work is the same: we explore your inner world and reconnect you to your own power.

Common Issues Men Bring to Therapy

Men seek therapy for a wide range of reasons. These include:

  • Stress and anxiety

  • Depression or low mood

  • Trauma (recent or childhood)

  • Burnout or overwhelm

  • Relationship difficulties

  • Anger or emotional regulation

  • Confidence and self-worth

  • Life transitions – retirement, redundancy, divorce, new fatherhood

  • Identity issues – especially for athletes, veterans, or men navigating career change

Whatever you’re carrying, therapy gives you space to unpack it.

Therapy in Falmouth or Online: What to Expect

At Inner Warrior Therapy, you’ll be offered:

  • A safe, non-judgmental space, where you can talk freely

  • Weekly sessions at a consistent time, creating structure and momentum

  • An integrative approach based on Transactional Analysis and relational therapy

  • A chance to understand how your past is shaping your present, and how to break free of old patterns

We work together to find what’s no longer serving you and create space for the man you want to become.

Therapy Outdoors: The Ocean as a Co-Therapist

For some clients, especially men who feel stuck indoors or overwhelmed by traditional therapy spaces, the natural world can be incredibly healing. That’s why I’ve partnered with Hayle Surf School, combining the physical challenge of surfing with therapeutic reflection.

Being in the sea, in the moment, facing the waves, it’s not just sport. It’s therapy, connection. It’s real.

This kind of embodied work can be especially powerful for men who struggle to connect through words alone.

I know how hard it can be to reach out. But if you’re reading this, something in you already knows: it’s time.
