Transactional Analysis (TA) is a dynamic and empowering form of psychotherapy that helps individuals understand and change patterns in their thinking, feeling, and behaviour. One of the most profound aspects of TA is a process known as ‘Deconfusion work.’

Understanding Deconfusion Work

Deconfusion work focuses on exploring and healing the emotional pain and unresolved needs of the ‘Child’ ego state. In TA, the Child ego state represents the part of us that holds early memories, emotions, and experiences—both positive and negative. When we face challenging or traumatic situations as children, we often make sense of them using the understanding and resources available to us at that time. These interpretations can lead to ‘confusion’ in adulthood—misunderstandings about ourselves, others, and the world that are based on outdated or distorted childhood perspectives. Deconfusion work seeks to gently uncover these early beliefs and feelings, helping you process them and this process allows clients to resolve inner conflicts, heal emotional wounds, and let go of self-limiting narratives that no longer serve us.
